The book, “Sharh Thalaathah Al-Usool wa Yaleehi Al-Qawa’id Al-Arba’a” is one of the basic books in Aqeedah, explained by Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan.
Shaikh Salih Al-Fawzan said, “So these are called Usool (principles) because other than it, from the affairs of the religion, are built upon them. Due to this, they are called Usool, because the matter of the religion is built upon them and all of the religion revolves around these three principles.”
The Four Principles that he expounds upon are related to Tawheed and Shirk. Tawheed refers to the fact that there is none who has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, and that is the purpose behind the creation of humankind and Jinn as well as the primary purpose behind the sending of the Prophets and Messengers. Shirk is the opposite of Tawheed and its nullifier. It is to direct worship to other than Allah. The author states the grievous sin of Shirk and how many Muslims in later times fell into polytheistic practices such as supplicating to the deceased in their graves and depending upon them for salvation. The principles are not based upon mere personal deductions, rather they are taken from the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (s).
