One of the greatest compilations of the sunnah and books of hadith is the Musnad Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal. This compilation is organized into collections of the hadiths narrated by each Companion (Sahabi). It begins with the asharah mubashsharah (“the ten who were promised Paradise”), thus highlighting their esteemed status and their dedicated efforts in preserving the ahadeeth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
The Musnad of Imam Ahmad received high praise from scholars and muhadditheen. Al-Hafiz Abu Moosa al-Madeeni authored a book wherein he elucidated the remarkable features of the Musnad. In this work, he expressed, “This book serves as a vital and trustworthy reference for scholars of hadeeth. Imam Ahmad, in its compilation, meticulously selected from the extensive pool of hadith he encountered and the copious reports he heard. He invested immense effort to establish it as a distinguished, preeminent, and reliable source. When confronted with disputes, it stands as a refuge and a wellspring of assistance.”
