The book, “Al-Ajroomiyyah” (also known as Matn Al-Ajroomiyyah or Al-Muqaddimah Al-Ajroomiyyah) is a book on Arabic grammar authored by Ibn Ajurrum. The book begins with a discussion on speech and its types, progressing through various topics in a method the author innovated, making it accessible to students. It is considered one of the most important foundational texts in Arabic grammar. Due to its immense significance, many prominent scholars and grammarians of the past have taken on the task of explaining it, and it is taught in most language and Sharia universities.
This text has been widely accepted by scholars, passed down through memorization, teaching, and writing. Dozens of commentaries and annotations have been written on this small book, as it serves as the first building block in the vast field of grammar. Some scholars recommend reading—or even memorizing—’Al-‘Awamil Al-Jurjaniyyah’ alongside this small book. In some regions of the Islamic world, these two texts are studied together to complete the understanding of the subject. This level of grammar knowledge is highly beneficial for beginners. For those who wish to advance, they can proceed to study Qatr al-Nada and its commentary, and thereafter they will be prepared for Alfiyyah. At this stage, they will no longer need any other Arabic language books.
Among the beneficial commentaries on this text is Ad-Durra An-Nahwiyya fi Sharh Al-Ajroomiyyah.
